The Conjuror's Revenge is a short story by Stephen Leacock that shows
how a magician gets back at someone who tries to ruin his performance.
One day, during a magic show, the conjuror amazed the audience by
pulling a bowl of goldfish from an empty cloth, which got everyone
excited and cheering. However, a guy in the front row kept saying that
the magician was hiding things up his sleeve. As the magician performed
more tricks, like the Hindoostani rings and pulling 17 eggs from a hat,
the same guy kept whispering that the magician was secretly hiding
everything under his clothes, which made the audience lose interest. The magician asked him for his gold watch,
handkerchief, collar, and glasses. After getting permission, he
pretended to smash them as part of a new Japanese trick, leaving the guy
confused. When the show ended, the audience was thrilled, but the quick
man had nothing to say. In the end, the magician successfully got his
revenge for the guy ruining his show with his comments.
